Its still the rainy season, in Vietnam....so you expect a downpour every afternoon...a couple of hours later it stops!
I love the rainy season...everything smells so fresh & clean after, it cools down, & everyone seems so energised!
Over the past couple of months, there have been two tropical cyclones, that have swept across Asia...but both times Saigon has been on the outside edge of these, & apart from some spectacular thunder & lightning, & slightly longer torrential rain, no problem!
A few days ago, another cyclone hit...this time raging its way through North / Central Vietnam on its way through...putting Saigon squarely inside the outer edge!
Thunder so loud the buildings were shaking...lightning making the night like day...high winds, & the rain..the rain!
On Tuesday morning it began to rain at 8am (I'd had my morning fix of coffee, at the alley stall...thank god!!!)...it rained solidly until 9pm!
When I say rained I'm not talking constant drizzle, or steady showers...I'm talking rain of biblical proportions!
Torrential & relentless!
I was left wondering if I should start rushing about collecting two of every animal (missing out the mosquitoes though) ...LOL
This is what the streets looked like by mid afternoon...
The power kept going on & off, the water was so murky that even a shower was out of the question...
I was stir crazy by late afternoon, so ventured out for some photo's & some food, although it was slim pickings, owing to most the businesses shutting up shop!
To top it off, my brand new umbrella, turned inside out in a giant gust of wind, & broke most of the tines..
Damn & blast it!!! LMAO
The next day saw it raining on & off most of the day again, but only in torrential spurts...nothing like the deluge of the day before..
Today is business as usual...
I had to shamefacedly return the cats, dogs, chickens, to their owners..
I was glad to free the rats though...they were serious troublemakers!!!
(just in case anyone took that last bit seriously, it was only tongue in cheek)
