Sorry for the lack of posts recently, but absolutely nothing much happening...you certainly dont want to hear me, blithering on about the same old same old, eh?
Its the rainy season, & contrary to the usual pattern of a couple of hours torrential downpour, late afternoon/early evening, end of, it has been raining off & on, mostly all day...a dreary persistant ,heavy drizzle, interspersed by thunder , lightning, & bucketing down...most people pop out to do whatever, then disappear inside again....nothing to see here folks, move along...lol
However...in the past couple of weeks, roadworks (ummm, alleyworks?) have been happening....
Last year, they dug up the main street, & repiped all the sewers etc, as well as putting all the phone & power lines underground....(gone are the atmospheric spaghetti tangles...sad)
BUT...the most annoying thing is the workmen themselves...
I have commented before on the loud exuberance of the Vietnamese...they seem incapable of conversing in anything less than a shout, when there is more than a couple of them...many are the times when I have popped out onto my balcony, thinking there are a crowd of people with something happening, only to see 3 or 4 ladies just shooting the breeze with each other...LMAO
The workmen are no exception....
In NZ, on a building site, or where roadworks are happening, there may be a bit of banter going on, or the odd shouted instruction, above machinery, but on the whole they just get on with it...
Not here...oh no...
Every guy wants to be the boss...hence the title of this post!
So, you get, jackhammer jackhammer, dig dig...then...what sounds like a stadium full of mens voices, all trying to outshout each other...looking out, you see half a dozen guys all shouting the odds about how a hole SHOULD have been dug...there are also shoving matches from time to time, when someone tries to fill a hole back in, & the original hole digger takes umbrage...lmao
They take a 2 hour break, from 11.30am - 1.30pm, to eat lunch & rest...the whole alley dive for their beds, to get in our afternoon nap...lol
Because most of our family work in the beer bar, until the early hours, they spend most of the afternoon napping, from lunchtime, until about 5pm, on & off...the poor buggers are getting little rest....the mood in the household is pretty grim...lol
Coupled with this...the workmen are digging up stinking mud...laced with sewage & water from the ancient leaking pipes...the smell is really unpleasant, & the mosquitoes are having an absolute field day...I am going through a large can of spray , every couple of days!!!
Thankfully, they are finally progressing further down the side alley...still noisy, but sounding less like they are in the house with us!
This will probably be my last post for at least a month, when my youngest son & his friend come to visit for a few days, then at the end of September I go back to NZ for 2 weeks , to renew my passport & celebrate my best friends birthday....on the way home to Saigon, I am supposed to spend 5 days in Bali, but given what is happening there with the earthquakes, I may have to rethink that...very sad face!
But anyway....there will be some happenings to blog about, coming up!!!!
