Mark works in IT, & has an obsession with owning the latest & greatest i-phones...(each to his own, but his wife Gina tells me it is his only expensive habit...lol)
When they set off on their big adventure, they were aware that the new i-phone X would hit the shelves, while they were in Vietnam, but had decided that no matter the cost, Mark would have his new toy ( the cost does get offset somewhat, by the fact that late model i-phones hold their resale value, for quite some time)...
By the time they reached here, the phone had been on sale here for a week....which was lucky for Gina, as the price had dropped a little...
The first of these phones to hit Saigon had made headline news!
People had queued for DAYS...to purchase the first phones, bought in from Singapore, at the eye watering price of $3900!!!!!
YEP, your eyes are not deceiving you...$3900!
(Given that the average yearly income, in Vietnam, is 18 -20 thousand, this phone price is obscene!)
Anyway...by the time Mark got his hot hands on his prize he only paid the bargain basement price (LOL) of $2000 (under my astonished gaze, he quickly pointed out that this included a case, a very silly looking earplug thing, insurance etc etc)
One of the incentives/perks(?) was that 1 customer each day, for the first month, would receive a gift...& as it happened, that day, it was Mark!
A $200 gift certificate for a hotel in Vung Tau...valid for 6 months!
Guess who was gifted it??????
As they were leaving , 2 days later, for China, then onto Hong Kong, it was no good for them, so they have given it to me!
I quickly got online, & have booked 4 nights, over Xmas...
Yes, I know that I didnt enjoy my last sojourn in Vung Tau, a few weeks ago, but that was because of the really bad choice of accommodation..
This hotel is right in the thick of things...surrounded by restaurants, overlooking the beach...it looks very nice!
& you cant look a gift horse in the mouth, eh?
