Over the years I have eaten (supposed sourdough) in NZ & Australia...it hasnt held a patch to the genuine article...tasteless!
So it was..... that I ate breakfast one morning, at a formerly undiscovered little cafe...they bought out my brekkie, complete with toast, & as I bit into the bread, to my delight the tanginess of PROPER sourdough hit my palate...I was over the moon!
After more breakfasts over the next few weeks, I decided to ask where this bread had come from....
The Vietnamese may appear simple in nature, but they are NOT stupid....they were not about to lose a customer by giving away their supply chain....so they waffled away in a confused mumble, (with a smile, of course) & told me nothing!
I went home & consulted good ol' Auntie Google...& up came a number of Saigon bakeries, who made sourdough bread....one of them just around the corner!!!
Off I went yesterday morning, to procure my very own loaf....
I was confronted with a veritable cornucopia of sourdough loaves...white, brown, wholemeal, rye...in all different shapes & sizes..
I was in sourdough heaven!!!! LMAO
Not only that, but they also bake meat pies....real meat pies with real flaky pastry...
Dont these look yummy?
The Australian beef pie was presented to me with WATTIES tomato sauce...my mouth was watering with anticipation of the taste of home....
Until I bit into it !!!!!!
The meat was laced with herbs....sage or thyme or somesuch....ewwwww
I love these herbs in stuffing, but NOT in a meat pie....why the hell would they ruin the beefy goodness of pure mince, with this shit?
I was SO disappointed !!
Happily, the sourdough bread lived up to my expectations....as I scoffed half a loaf for my lunch! LOL
