3 months ago, I made a vow, NEVER to renew my visa at the Vietnam/Cambodia border again...after a day of horror!
Standing for hours in line, at the mercy of indifferent, passive-aggressive border officials...in a tin warehouse with no aircon, chairs, water or snacks to buy...
On that day I swore "NEVER AGAIN!"...& I am usually a woman of my word (to the point of bloody minded stubbornness..Lol)
BUT...unfortunately I have been foiled, by bureaucratic craziness!..I am NOT a happy camper!!!!!
I toddled off to my agent, a couple of weeks ago, to get my in country extension ... I went early, to avoid any last minute hiccups, necessitating panic mode...& thank goodness I did...
It appears that the newly elected power brokers , in the Govt are still jostling for dominance, by sticking to the crazy decisions they made when first elected, & refusing to listen to sense re the Visa's...
Sooooo...we are still only being offered a ONE month extension!
Usually, It costs me around $100 to extend for 3 months...something I can live with...but, $100 for 1 month...NO WAY!
In country/out of country, no difference....so, for me to go all the way to Phnom Penh, to the Vietnam Embassy...which involves the bus trip to PP, a stay in a hotel for 3 days, then the bus back (all extra expenditure), would make not a blind bit of difference...I would still only get 1 month!
The only way around this is to get an invitation from the Govt, for 3 months (which I now have)....& take the dreaded border run!
Knowing that every travel agent has a sticky fingered little govt official, willing to bend the rules, really grates with me...I hate corruption!
But my hands are tied...no point cutting off my nose to spite my face, eh?
I will bite the bullet & off to the border I go, tomorrow!
But...I am prepared this time...
With frozen bottles of water, food, my book, a folding stool, a hand fan...I am NOT going to get caught out, again!
Wish me luck!!!
